Esta exposición presenta una selección de obras significativas; propuestas actuales y piezas representativas de etapas anteriores, obras de gran formato y de tamaño medio. Composiciones donde la geometría vibra y establece intensos campos de color, arrastramientos de la materia en la superficie, hibridación entre recursos abstractos y figurativos. Una dimensión táctil del recorrido perceptivo donde texturas y visualidad se fusionan. Seres enigmáticos, animales totémicos, acciones corporales y huellas, óvalos y círculos, sombras de cariátides que se recortan en el muro. “Cuando el color respira, el cuadro vibra y toma cuerpo”. -ML
Menchu Lamas (Vigo, 1954) inicia su trayectoria en los años ochenta con la participación en el colectivo de artistas gallegos Atlántica. Sus obras han sido seleccionadas para exposiciones internacionales como la Bienal de Sao Paulo; Europalia Arts Festival en Bélgica; Five Spanish Artists en Artists Space, Nueva York; Spansk-Egen-Art que recorrió diferentes museos escandinavos; Currents en el ICA de Boston, junto a Sigmar Polke, Leon Golub y Anish Kapoor.
Su obra se encuentra en las colecciones del Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofía de Madrid (MCARS), el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA), el Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM), el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del País Vasco (ARTIUM), el Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC), el Centro Gallego de Arte Contemporáneo (CGAC), el Museo Patio Herreriano, la Fundació La Caixa, el Parlamento Español, el Parlamento de Galicia, la Fundación Juan March, la Corporación Exxon en Nueva York, la Fundación Thomas en Múnich, la Colección Nordsten en Colonia, entre muchas otras.
Una retrospectiva de su obra titulada Anda-ven-vuela, comisariada por Chus Martinez, tendrá lugar en el MUSAC de León a partir de octubre de 2022. Sus muestras más recientes incluyen El viaje del color en La Lonja de Alicante (2021) y Colores nómadas en el Museo ARTIUM de Vitoria (2017).

This exhibition presents a selection of significant works, current proposals and representative paintings from previous stages, large formats and medium sized compositions where geometry vibrates and establishes intense fields of color, dragging of the medium through the surface. A hybridization between abstract and figurative means, a tactile dimension of the perceptual path were textures and visual language merge together. Enigmatic beings, totemic animals, corporal actions and prints, ovals and circles, shades of caryatids that cut themselves off the wall. Menchu Lamas (Vigo, 1954) started her trajectory in the 80’s as a member of the artistic collective of Galician painters Atlantica. Since then, her work has been shown at international exhibitions such as the Sao Paulo Biennial; Europalia Arts Festival in Belgium; Five Spanish Artists in Artists Space, New York; Spansk-Egen-Art which toured different Scandinavian museums; Currents in ICA Boston, along with Sigmar Polke, Leon Golub and Anish Kapoor.
Her work belongs to the collections of the Reina Sofia Museum (MCARS), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA), The Atlantic Center of Modern Art (CAAM), the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country (ARTIUM), the Extremaduran and Iberian America Museum of Contemporary Art (MEIAC), the Galician Center of Contemporary Art (CGAC), the Patio Herreriano Museum in Valladolid, La Caixa Foundation, the Spanish Parliament, the Galician Parliament, the Juan March Foundation, The Exxon Corporation in New York, the Thomas Fountation in Munich, the Nordsten Collection in Cologne, among many others.
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y Leon MUSAC will host a large retrospective of her work titled Anda-ven-vuela, curated by Chus Martínez, opening in October 2022. Her most recent exhibitions include El viaje del color at La Lonja de Alicante (2021) and Nomadic Colors at ARTIUM, Vitoria (2017).
